ReadPlease 2003 is a simple, straightforward document reader. It comes in two versions. The free download version can read aloud any text that is pasted into its text window. The commercial version ReadPlease Plus 2003 adds the ability to read any selected text (by hitting ctrl-c) and can start reading from anywhere in the text. A limitation is that reading speed is controlled by a slider, but the words-per-minute rate is not displayed. For its low cost and ease of use, this program is a winner.³

Limitations:

ReadPlease 2003 (the free version) can read text that is pasted into its text window, but only from the beginning of the document. Upgraded AT&T synthetic speech voices must be purchased separately. Scanning requires multiple steps. For a free program it is superb!
