Documents can be scanned in colour or black and white and opened from different applications and saved into the Kurzweil 3000 format. Kurzweil 3000 users who only have one copy of the product typically find it best to have a Kurzweil 3000 Professional, which allows them to create and prepare documents as well as use the reading, writing and learning tools.
This product includes a mix of Professional and LearnStation software, which is usually used by large organizations, which require multiple copies of the product.2
The main limitation of Kurzweil 3000 is the price. The word prediction feature may not be as effective as other word prediction programs. The font and size of text in the word prediction box cannot be adjusted, and requires two keystrokes to select a word from the prediction list. Although the program can read directly from web pages without the need to select a block of text, its compatibility with Internet Explorer may be inconsistent.
When opening the ‘Read the Web’ option, it is necessary to wait until each page has opened completely so that the highlighting feature correctly locates the initial word from which the user wishes to commence reading. Overall, it is an excellent program!
