Portia was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, in 1911.

Who were Portia's parents?

Portia's father was Reverend William White. He was the first black person to graduate from Acadia University. He graduated in 1906 as an ordained minister. Portia's mother was Izie White (White) from Mill Village, Nova Scotia.

Did Portia have any siblings?

Portia had twelve siblings. She was the third oldest child.
