1994-95 was a significant year for NALD. Following the appointment of long-time Board member Charles Ramsey as Executive Director, NALD opted to move its head office from Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology in London, Ontario to its current location in Scovil House, Fredericton, New Brunswick.

At the same time, staff continued to expand and update NALD's network, database and resources. Activities at Fanshawe College and at NALD's new home included:

• updating records for Newfoundland, Yukon, Ontario, British Colombia, and some of Saskatchewan's files through regular contacts and survey information.
• Reviewing numerous newsletters to collect current information concerning events, awards, new resources, etc. and sharing these with users via the electronic bulletin board and numerous searches.
• creating, developing, and maintaining working partnerships with numerous colleagues across the country, directly or indirectly involved in literacy and adult basic education activities.
• distributing information about NALD and its services to major literacy coalitions for publication in their newsletters.
• embarking on a new course of action aimed at taking full advantage of the information superhighway and new technologies for the benefit of the entire literacy community with all services offered in both official languages.

Scovil House, NALD's new headquarters, is located in the heart of Fredericton, New Brunswick's provincial Capital--across from the Centennial Building and just one block from the provincial legislature. One of the many historic wooden structures lining Fredericton's elm-shaded streets, the Queen Anne Revival style building was named for a turn-of the century school superintendent whose home it once was.
