Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) is the major federal agency responsible for funding health research in Canada. The CIHR supports more than 10,000 researchers and staff each year to increase knowledge and understanding of health
sciences and ultimately, to improve the health of Canadians. In 2003-2004, the CIHR
made investments of $580 million.

Canadian Health Services Research Foundation funds applied health systems
research. Most research programs are funded jointly by the Foundation and other
organizations such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), provincial
ministries, and agencies and other organizations. The Foundation focuses its funding on
