Ongoing assessment allows both the tutor and the learner to examine:

• how they are progressing towards an agreed upon goal;

• how they might improve;

• and how well the learning program fits the learner’s learning needs.(17)

Portfolio
A file that contains a representative selection of a student’s work. It is meant to show progress over a period of time so that both learner and teacher can see what has been achieved.(18) The development of a portfolio also provides an opportunity for learners to better understand their strengths. Short-Term Goal
What the learner will accomplish in the amount of time he is willing to commit to the program.
